Most cable/DSL routers include a hardware firewall which will allow you to connect multiple PCs to your DSL connection and protect your internal network at the same time.
Note: Windows XP and Vista include a software firewall. If you are using the Windows firewall, it is important that you run Windows Update frequently or setup Automatic Update to keep your computer updated.
