My Internet connection is down, what can I do to restore service?

One of the most common reasons of home internet outage is a router malfunction.  Here are steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Reset Your Router:

  • Unplug the router from power.
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in.
  • Reboot any devices experiencing issues.

2. Check the ONT and Battery Backup:

  • Ensure that lights are on.
  • The pictures below show represent an ONT and battery backup in a good state.

If you see red lights or no lights on either the ONT or the battery back up, that may be the cause of an internet outage.  Please contact the Internet Help Desk at 507-634-2575 for assistance.

My Internet connection is always slow, is KMTelecom having a problem?

A slow internet connection is not normal.  KMTelecom provides synchronous speeds that are 98% reliable.  If your experience is not exceptional, there are a few factors that could affect your internet speed.

  • Router Age: We recommend updating your router periodically.  Experts recommend upgrading your router at least every 5 years.  More frequently if you use a lot of smart home gadgets.
  • Router Rating: Is your router rated for the internet speed you are paying for?  If your router cannot support the internet speed, it will create slow internet speeds on your devices.  You will want to make sure your router can handle the speed.
  • Browser Update: Make sure you are using the latest version of your browser.

How can I find out what speed I’m really getting in my home?

Speed Test: Test your internet speed. Start by directly connecting your computer to the internet cable and bypass your wireless router.  Test your speed here: https://speed.kmtel.com/.  This will give a true test of the speed coming into your home.

My Internet has been down for 3 days. When will you have this fixed?

If your internet is down and you have tried rebooting your router without any improvement, please contact our help desk at 507-634-2575 to report the issue.  At KMTelecom we don’t always know when you are having a problem.  However, we are here to help 24/7/365!
